Compounding For Her - Bioidentical Hormone Replacement Therapy

Hormonal imbalance can cause many difficulties for women who are near or at menopausal age. Women seek to regulate their hormones in response to the overwhelming negative symptoms they are experiencing. These symptoms can include fatigue, weight gain, irrita-bility, sleep disturbances, loss of mem-ory, and other quality of life issues. Bioidentical hormone replacement ther-apy has been shown in several clinical studies to help alleviate these symp-toms in a safe and effective manner.

Bioidentical Hormone Replacement Therapy (BHRT) - What does it mean?

The term "bioidentical hormones" refers to those hormones that occur naturally in the body. Common hormones that are bioidentical are estrone, estradiol, estriol, progesterone, and testosterone. All of these hormones have United States Pharmacopeia monographs and purity standards, and can be com-pounded based on a person’s individual need

What is the difference between BHRT and HRT?

HRT stands for Hormone Replacement Therapy. It differs from BHRT in the type of hormone(s) used. Most commonly, HRT will consist of either hormones extracted from the urine of pregnant horses, and/or hormones assembled in a laboratory. Neither type is identical to the human hormone mole-cule. The improper ratios and different chemical struc-tures of HRT account for treatment failures and the potential for side effects.

Why BHRT?

The evidence is very clear. Replacing declining hormones treats the symptoms of menopause that affect patients’ quality of life. Physiological data and clinical outcomes demon-strate that bioidentical hormones are associated with lower risks, including the risk of breast cancer and cardiovas-cular disease, and are more efficacious than their synthetic and animal-derived counterparts.[1]
Clinical studies have shown that BHRT can alleviate menopausal symptoms including loss of memory, weight gain, hot flashes, night sweats, depression, anxiety, and that BHRT has demon-strated beneficial cardiometabolic ef-fects. [2][3]
